Carbon Innovation

Together we can address greenhouse gas emissions

True progress in the fight against climate change means collaboration. That’s a key reason why Oxy is helping accelerate powerful, practical technologies, projects and businesses to deliver lower-carbon fuels and products that can help decarbonize the hardest-to-abate sectors.

Carbon Innovation Overview

Carbon Management Leadership

Our Low Carbon Ventures (LCV) subsidiary is striving to lead the way in developing transformational and sustainable business models that can transform our fuel and industrial ecosystems. Building from Oxy’s core expertise in reservoir engineering, CO2 handling, chemistry and major projects, Oxy is investing in technologies and projects ranging from low-carbon power generation and Direct Air Capture to methane measurement and lithium extraction.

LCV Focus

Overview

Overview

LCV is building on Oxy’s core strengths to identify synergistic technologies and businesses that we can help support and accelerate. With a focus on emissions reduction, CCUS projects and low-carbon power, we’re striving to bring multiple solutions to commercial-scale on a path to achieve our own climate targets and help others do the same.

CCUS Project Development

CCUS Project Development

With 50+ years of experience sequestering and transporting CO2, carbon capture, utilization and storage are a natural extension of our business. We’re putting our expertise to work to commercialize Direct Air Capture and point source sequestration hubs, where we can capture and store atmospheric CO2 and CO2 captured at industrial facilities.

We are also investing in CO2 utilization to create lower-carbon fuels and products using captured CO2.

Reducing Direct Emissions

Reducing Direct Emissions

LCV is also supporting a number of initiatives to help measure, track and mitigate Oxy’s operational emissions. From investments in low-carbon power, like NET Power, to methane emission measurement platforms, LCV is helping accelerate technologies that can play a role in emission reduction.

Low-Carbon Power

Low-Carbon Power

24/7, dispatchable, additional clean power plays a critical role in any decarbonization pathway. Through project-level investments in solar and wind to commercialization of new low-carbon power sources, LCV is working to find ways to fill the gap in cost-effective low-carbon energy supply.

Business Spotlight

1PointFive: Taking Direct Air Capture from Possible to Practical

1PointFive, a subsidiary of Oxy, is developing the largest Direct Air Capture (DAC) facility in the world, called STRATOS, which is currently under construction in Texas. STRATOS is designed to remove up to 500,000 metric tons of atmospheric CO2 annually once fully operational—laying the foundation for commercial-scale DAC deployment.
