Midstream and Power
We keep critical energy streams moving sustainably and responsibly
Our natural gas and CO2 processing facilities, pipelines and associated oil and gas gathering systems provide flow assurance by connecting our production to third-party pipeline systems and customers.
Efficiently moving energy from the field to the market is critical for meeting global demand. Oxy both builds its own midstream infrastructure and contracts with third parties to deliver that energy. As with everything we do, our midstream infrastructure is a key contributor to our net-zero goals.
Our midstream, marketing and power groups keep the Oxy organization connected, streamlined and performing. We proactively inspect, maintain and upgrade our gathering, compression and processing systems, including the world-class CO2 recovery infrastructure that drives our enhanced oil recovery (EOR) operations and safely sequesters CO2 deep underground. We also operate power cogeneration plants that keep key OxyChem facilities up and running, along with an active energy marketing business.
Putting CO2 in a better place.
Oxy operates large-scale processing and pipeline assets that facilitate our CO2 emissions reduction strategy. Our infrastructure includes 14 CO2 recovery plants, 2,500 miles of CO2 pipelines and 6,000+ CO2 injection wells, across 34 CO2 EOR projects in the Permian Basin. Reducing carbon footprint by creating our own energy.
Commissioned in 2019, our 16 megawatt solar plant with 174,000 solar panels provides power to one of our key Permian EOR operations. Cogeneration significantly increases electrical power generation efficiency and reduces CO2 emissions significantly over traditional methods. Oxy operates power cogeneration facilities with a combined capacity of 1,500 megawatts and 1.7 million pounds per hour of steam. These plants generate the electricity and steam needed to power some of our OxyChem facilities in Texas and Louisiana, with excess capacity sold into the grid.
Building stronger markets.
Oxy actively markets our natural gas, NGLs and crude oil produced in the United States, the Middle East and North Africa to domestic and global customers. Our seasoned marketing professionals are empowered by the most advanced trading technologies and backed by the financial strength of a global energy leader. We deliver reliable transactions executed by regional experts who get results.
In addition to marketing Oxy’s equity crude oil produced in the U.S., our marketing team leverages its regional expertise to purchase non-equity crude oil to maximize the value of downstream pipeline and export terminal commitments.
