In 2019, Occidental acquired oil and gas assets in Africa as part of its purchase of Anadarko Petroleum. Occidental has entered into a
binding agreement to sell these assets to Total S.A.
In September 2019,
Occidental completed the sale of Anadarko’s Mozambique LNG stake to Total S.A., for $3.9 billion. Occidental and Total continue to work towards closing the remaining Africa transactions in Algeria, Ghana and South Africa, which are described below:
Algeria: Largest foreign oil producer with three mega projects in the Sahara Desert (Ourhoud, HBNS and El Merk) as part of a production sharing agreement that was signed with Sonatrach in the late 1980s.
Ghana: Working with our partners and with Tullow as operator, first oil was achieved at the Jubilee Field in December 2010; First oil was achieved at the adjacent TEN development in August 2016.
South Africa: Exploration and operation of offshore Blocks 5/6/7, which cover more than 23 million acres.
