Caustic Soda
OxyChem produces sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution, commonly known as caustic soda, through the electrolysis of sodium chloride (salt) brine in diaphragm or membrane cells. Chlorine and hydrogen are co-produced. The caustic soda solution may be clear or slightly cloudy in appearance, depending on the cell process used. It readily absorbs carbon dioxide from the air. It is available commercially as 50% NaOH , but other concentrations can be provided.
Caustic soda has a wide variety of applications in many industries, including pulp and paper, aluminum, soaps and detergents, textiles, petrochemicals and chemical processing.

Caustic Potash
OxyChem is the largest North American manufacturer of potassium hydroxide (KOH), commonly known as caustic potash. It is produced through the electrolysis of potassium chloride using membrane cell technology, along with co-products chlorine and hydrogen.
A strong alkali, caustic potash is available in both liquid and dry forms. It has applications in fertilizers, batteries, soaps and detergents, specialty glasses and other industrial operations. It also serves as a chemical intermediate for dyes, pharmaceuticals and photographic chemicals.

Silicates
OxyChem produces a variety of sodium silicate products. Sodium silicate is the generic name for a series of compounds derived from soluble sodium silicate glasses. They are aqueous liquids containing sodium oxide (Na 2 O) and silicon dioxide (SiO 2) in various ratios. By varying the proportion of SiO 2 to Na 2 O and the solids content, one can obtain solutions with differing properties that have many diversified industrial applications. In addition to its wide range of commercial liquid sodium silicate products, OxyChem also produces sodium metasilicates in both granular anhydrous and pentahydrate forms.
