Safety Culture and Workforce Engagement
Our health and safety culture empowers employees and contractors to strive for improvement and innovation in our HSE&S practices across our operations. We promote a risk-based approach to training, providing role-specific instruction in hazard recognition, personal protective equipment, emergency response and safe work practices. Participation and competency are tracked through enterprise-wide systems, with training delivered through a combination of in-person, online and specialized programs.
Oxy’s Stop Work Authority empowers employees and contractors to pause or stop any activity to prevent potential incidents. Our Life-Saving Rules (LSRs), aligned with industry guidance, establish clear expectations for safe work practices across our operations and are reinforced through regular communication and training.

We support continuous improvement through programs such as Behavior-Based Safety (BBS), which focuses on identifying safe and at-risk behaviors, reinforcing positive practices and providing real-time feedback and coaching.
We monitor workplace environments to prevent occupational illnesses and injuries, including air quality, noise and ergonomics. Our Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene teams identify and manage workplace exposures, including chemical, physical and environmental hazards, through targeted prevention programs supported by health services such as screenings and vaccinations. We also address dynamic risks through initiatives such as through our Heat Stress Management Program. Our safety standards extend to employees and contractors. We conduct contractor safety meetings as applicable and provide access to safety resources and guidelines. At the job site, contractor safety is monitored in real time and periodically audited, and performance is tracked and evaluated to inform continuous improvement and procurement decisions.
