In addition to our company's financial success and your personal development, we value safety, the environment, personal accountability, strong corporate citizenship, and a culture that facilitates making the right decisions at the right time.
If this sounds like an environment in which you would succeed, we encourage you to submit an application for an internship or full-time position.
Occidental offers summer internships in our oil and gas and chemical divisions to students with educational backgrounds in Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical, Petrochemical, and Electrical Engineering; Geophysics and Geology; Land Management; and Health, Environment and Safety (HES). We also offer a limited number of internships for students with backgrounds in other disciplines.
Occidental internships typically last 10 to 12 weeks. Students are given a lot of responsibility and are expected to assist in developing new projects, contribute to existing research and operations, and become familiar with various aspects of the industry. Interns are treated much like newly hired employees, and the contributions they make can be significant.
Our summer intern program stresses hands-on participation with an emphasis on completing a summer project. Projects are designed to add value to our operations while providing an opportunity to observe your skills and competencies in action. Knowledge gained and work completed are assessed at the end of the internship period through a presentation and poster session where interns describe their projects to Occidental employees in a variety of departments. This is a valuable opportunity to gain experience in making presentations, and it's a reminder that a broad range of skills is essential to professional success.
Internships at Occidental are seen as stepping stones to permanent industry careers. The experience fuses occupation and education, and creates a learn-as-you-work atmosphere that can easily be translated to a professional position. Each intern is paired with a mentor whose role is to provide guidance and encouragement. Our internships assess your potential long-term career fit within our organization, and allow you to determine if Occidental is right for you.
