Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging at Oxy
Oxy’s legacy has been made possible by employees with bold ideas and diverse perspectives, united by a passion to outperform. I’ve had the opportunity to see this firsthand, having led teams across cultures and disciplines around the world over the course of my 40-plus year career with Oxy. My experience has been that the teams who have unlocked the most potential are the teams that are inclusive. They take care of each other by maintaining our culture of acceptance, appreciation and respect. These are the teams who everyone wants to be a part of, who energize everyone around them, and who create opportunity not just for our company, but within the communities where we live and work.
The work we are doing takes true innovation. It requires diversity of thought from top talent with a variety of abilities, backgrounds and cultures, who are fearless in challenging themselves and each other in the pursuit of solving the world’s toughest challenges. Our DIB program is central to our effort to recruit and retain the best people to fulfill our mission. We have expanded our recruiting pool of highly qualified applicants from a variety of colleges, universities and trade or technical schools, including those in our local communities, from which to select the best interns and new hires who contribute energy and ideas from day one.
Embedding inclusion and belonging also helps us develop and retain top-tier employees by providing a safe and inclusive workplace where everyone feels comfortable to bring their authentic selves to work every day. This enables employees to perform their best by applying their utmost creativity and technical skills, strengthens collaboration between our teams and accelerates personal and professional development of top performers. This dynamic culture drives our employees to optimize the safety, efficiency and performance of our operations, compete for new business opportunities and increase long-term shareholder value.
