Visualization Center - Houston
Occidental’s Visualization Center for geoscientific reservoir
analysis blends advanced visualization technology with team collaboration,
making Occidental an industry leader in reservoir surveillance
techniques.
Visualization centers are used by the oil and gas industry for
seismic analysis, geologic interpretation and well planning exercises.
Occidental’s geoscientists have taken the technology further
by implementing robust collaboration techniques that combine advanced
computing technologies with traditional geoscience and engineering
functions.
The program’s success has allowed Occidental to expand
the technology’s reach by deploying visualization centers
globally. Most facilities have a minimum 15-foot screen and two
six-foot auxiliary screens that provide large, simultaneous viewing
of multi-disciplinary data and applications that offer a high-quality,
3-dimensional look at the reservoir’s
characteristics which might otherwise be undetected.
Along with a number of smaller visualization facilities, Occidental
is able to engage in more spontaneous collaborative technical sessions
that result in more accurate reservoir analysis, simultaneous information
reproduction worldwide, and optimum use of the latest available
technologies. This two phase approach results in improved analysis
at a cost savings of more than 75 percent compared to typical visualization
center techniques.
