Overview

Occidental Petroleum Corporation’s annual Social Responsibility Report focuses on social responsibility — including corporate governance, labor practices and human rights — and health, environment and safety (HES) policies, objectives, performance and activities of the company and its subsidiaries (collectively, Oxy).

The 2008 Report provides updates to the 2007 Social Responsibility Report and information on new activities and programs throughout Oxy’s worldwide operations during the 2008 calendar year. The Report is guided by the sustainability reporting indicators published by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the American Petroleum Institute and International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (API/IPIECA). Oxy reports on those indicators that we consider most relevant to our business operations.

Oxy’s approach to social responsibility considers many perspectives — including those of stockholders, communities and governments in our operating areas, and other interested members of the public — as well as the environment.

Oxy values the attention that social responsibility reporting brings to key issues and continuously identifies opportunities for improvement. We seek to communicate Oxy’s social responsibility initiatives and performance broadly — to employees, contractors, investors, partners, governments, customers, suppliers and local communities.

Oxy’s social responsibility practices are fundamental to our reputation as a partner of choice, employer of choice and neighbor of choice.
