Fortune Most Admired (2018)

In 2018, Fortune magazine ranked Occidental No. 1 in the Mining, Crude-Oil Production category in its annual World's Most Admired Companies survey. This was Occidental’s 10th time to achieve this top ranking, which we have received every reported year since 2008.

Corporate Responsibility Magazine's 100 Best Corporate Citizens (2016)

For the seventh-straight year, Occidental is one of the highest-ranked oil and gas companies on Corporate Responsibility Magazine's annual 100 Best Corporate Citizens List. The publication evaluates the large-cap Russell 1000 companies on more than 300 data points across seven categories: environment, climate change, employee relations, human rights, governance, financial performance and philanthropy and community support.

American Chemistry Council Responsible Care® Company of the Year (2015)

The American Chemistry Council (ACC) named OxyChem its 2015 "Responsible Care® Company of the Year." This award recognizes OxyChem's outstanding performance in the areas of health, environmental, safety and security as well as the systems that OxyChem has in place to sustain this performance. ACC has recognized OxyChem with this award – one of the organization's top honors – five times since 1998.

American Chemistry Council Responsible Care® Energy Efficiency Awards (2015)

OxyChem plants in Texas and Louisiana received ACC Responsible Care® Energy Efficiency Awards for improving energy efficiency in manufacturing operations in 2015. OxyChem's cumulated energy savings of 387,000 MMBTU, or 70,000 barrels of oil equivalent, contributed to a reduction of 24,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent.

E&P Company of the Year (2015)

Occidental was recognized as E&P Company of the Year at the 3rd Annual Southwest and Midcontinent Oil and Gas Awards. The E&P Award recognized Occidental as a standout operator that demonstrates impressive performance operationally and for its focus on environmental stewardship.

Newsweek Green Rankings (2016)

Occidental's commitment to social responsibility and environmental performance was recognized in Newsweek Magazine's 2016 Green Rankings, one of the most recognized sustainability assessments of the world's largest companies.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA's) Voluntary Protection Program (2015)

Eighteen OxyChem facilities, including its headquarters in Dallas, achieved Star Status under OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program as among the safest work sites in the U.S.

Top Ranked Socially Responsible Dividend Stock (2016)

Occidental was named a Top Ranked Socially Responsible Dividend Stock. Inclusion in the list recognizes a strong and sustained dividend yield, as well as being recognized by prominent asset managers as a socially responsible investment.

Reputation Dividend (2015)

Occidental ranked No. 5 among more than 500 U.S. companies analyzed – and No. 2 among oil and gas companies – in the 8th annual U.S. Reputation Dividend Report. The Reputation Dividend Report analyzes corporate reputation and its impact on shareholder value.

Vinyl Institute Environmental and Safety Performance Awards (2015)

Nine OxyChem and OxyVinyls plants received prestigious recognition from the Vinyl Institute (VI) for excellence in worker safety performance and protecting the environment. The following plants received recognition from the VI: Convent (Ethylene Dichloride [EDC]), Louisiana; Deer Park, (Vinyl Chloride Monomer [VCM] and Polyvinyl Chloride [PVC]), Texas; Geismar (EDC), Louisiana; Ingleside (VCM), Texas; Niagara Falls (PVC), Ontario, Canada; Pasadena (PVC), Texas; Pedricktown (PVC), New Jersey; and La Porte (VCM), Texas.

Gas Processors Association Environmental Excellence Award (2015)

Occidental was recognized and awarded the prestigious "Environmental Excellence Award" from the Gas Processors Association. The award recognizes the replacement of the Slaughter-Mallet Gas Plant's sulfur recovery unit with a new recompression facility that returns acid gas for injection with recycled CO2.  The new facility, located in the Permian Basin of West Texas, will reduce the plant's air emissions by more than 98 percent.

Chlorine Institute "Chairman's Safety Excellence Award" (2015)

OxyChem's plant in Ingleside, Texas, was honored with Chlorine Institute's highest award for operating with no OSHA recordable injuries, no environmental releases above reportable quantities, and no risk management plan events. Only four chlorine production locations across the United States achieved this prestigious award.

Chlorine Institute Exceptional Safety Performance Award (2015)

Chlorine Institute (CI) awarded OxyChem sites the Exceptional Performance Award, recognizing alignment with CI's "Aim for Zero" goals: zero OSHA recordable injuries, zero Risk Management Plan (RMP) events, and zero EPA reportable quantity (RQ) releases for chlor-alkali chemicals. The following OxyChem sites were awarded for their safety leadership and ability to achieve zero in those categories during 2015:

  • 325,000 hours with zero recordable injuries – Convent and Geismar, Louisiana
  • Zero recordable injuries in 2015 – New Johnsonville, Tennessee
  • 13 Years with Zero RQs or RMP Events – Niagara Falls, New York
  • 7 Years with Zero RQs or RMP Events – Taft, Louisiana
  • 6 Years with Zero RQs or RMP Events – Ingleside, Texas
  • 1 Year with Zero RQs or RMP Events – New Johnsonville, Tennessee, and Wichita, Kansas

Excellence in Natural Heritage Award (2015)

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recognized Glenn Springs Holdings Inc., a subsidiary of Occidental, for its exceptional remediation actions restoring the Lower North Potato Creek Watershed located in Tennessee. Among many restorative actions, Glenn Springs constructed passive and active water treatment systems, enhanced vegetation and wildlife habitat and restored stream segments and wetlands.

Occidental Colombia's Chipirón oilfield project honored with the "2015 Innovation Award"

The Asociación Colombiana de Ingenieros de Petróleos (Acipet) awarded the Chipirón oilfield project its 2015 Innovation Award based on an innovative Occidental drilling platform extending deep into the lush, natural environment with minimal environmental impacts. In the words of Acipet judges -- "for "doing what was thought impossible". Juan Carlos López Ballen, Occidental's Middle Magdalena Facilities and Construction Manager, was also awarded "Most Creative Engineer in the Industry" reflecting the design and engineering challenges the project entailed and his achievements spanning 20 years in industry.

Rail Safety Awards (2015)

OxyChem received awards in 2015 for the safe transportation of material from Norfolk Southern Corporation, CSX Transportation, Kansas City Southern Railway and the Canadian National Railroad.

 "Project Execution of the Year" Award (2015)

Al Hosn Gas, a joint venture between Occidental and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), was awarded "Project Execution of the Year" at The Oil and Gas Year's Abu Dhabi 2016 ceremony. The award recognized the successful commissioning of the Shah Gas Development Project in Abu Dhabi, UAE at the end of 2015.

OxyChem celebrates 50 years in Louisiana (2016)

OxyChem celebrated the company's 50th anniversary of operations in Louisiana in 2016. The company hosted an event at its Taft plant in St. Charles Parish, with local elected officials, community members and current and former employees. OxyChem was recognized for its contributions to local organizations including company representatives serving on boards such as United Way of St. Charles and assistance in disasters such as hurricanes. A part of the Louisiana business community since 1966, OxyChem has chlor-alkali facilities in Taft, Geismar and Convent, as well as a chlorinated isocyanurates plant in Luling.

Occidental Oman Marks 30 Years Operating Anniversary (2015)

Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sinaidi, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Occidental of Oman celebrated its 30th anniversary celebration. Steve Chazen, Occidental's then-President and CEO, and members of the Occidental Board of Directors participated in the event.  Since 1984, Occidental Oman has been committed to respecting the environment, operating safely and upholding high standards of social responsibility.

Oxy Qatar Recognized for Social Responsibility (2015)

In appreciation of Occidental's valuable contribution and partnerships with Qatari institutions, Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums and Reach Out to Asia, honored Oxy Qatar for its sponsorships and commitment to social responsibility.
