The relationship between climate
change and the use of fossil fuels has become a prominent and controversial
topic of public discussion. Occidental has been monitoring both
the research and public debate on climate change and believes that
its business plans are consistent with the goal of mitigating greenhouse
gas emissions (GHGs). However, the absence of definitive GHG requirements
where we operate makes it impossible to estimate whether the financial
impact on Occidental of prospective GHG regulations will be positive
or negative.
