The United States is the heart of Oxy’s oil and gas business. Our net developed and undeveloped oil and gas assets in the U.S. encompass over 7 million acres.

Oxy’s U.S. operations are organized in several regions. The largest of these is in the Permian Basin of West Texas, where Oxy is the No. 1 oil producer, and southeast New Mexico, where it is the No. 2 oil producer. Additionally, Oxy operates more carbon dioxide (CO2) flood projects for enhanced oil recovery than all other Permian CO2 flood operators combined.

In California, Oxy is the largest natural gas producer and the largest oil and gas producer on a gross operated barrels of oil equivalent basis. We are the state’s largest acreage holder, with approximately 1.6 million net developed and undeveloped acres, the vast majority of which are net fee mineral interests. Our 2009 discovery of oil and gas in Kern County, one of the most significant finds in Oxy’s history, is believed to be California’s largest oil and gas discovery in 35 years.

Oxy’s natural gas production in the midcontinent region of the U.S. includes the Hugoton Field in Kansas and Oklahoma, the Piceance Basin in Colorado and the bulk of non-associated gas assets in the Permian Basin.

Oxy’s operations in North Dakota and South Texas are new core producing areas for the company. In North Dakota, Oxy’s assets encompass over 200,000 net acres in the Williston Basin and include the oil-rich Bakken Formation as well as the prospective Three Forks Formation. In South Texas, Oxy has acquired nearly 93,000 net acres of long-lived natural gas-focused assets.

Oxy continually strives to strengthen its North America position by increasing production through strategic acquisitions and additional development in each of the company’s key U.S. business areas.
