Effective project management is fundamental to successful construction of new facilities and modification of existing facilities. Oxy is a member of the Construction Industry Institute and a practitioner of Project Management Institute best practices in the strategic management of construction and development projects.
Current projects include:
- The first train of the Century Plant, a new gas processing plant and related pipeline infrastructure in Pecos County, Texas, began operation in late 2010. The Century Plant processes high-CO2 (carbon dioxide) inlet gases from local sources, yielding natural gas ready for the marketplace as well as a steady, economical supply of CO2 for Oxy’s Permian Basin enhanced oil recovery (EOR) operations. The second train of the Century Plant, became operational in late 2012.
- In California, Oxy completed construction of a cryogenic gas processing plant at the Elk Hills Field in Kern County. The plant became operational in the third quarter of 2012. The new plant's capacity of 200 million cubic feet per day will bring Elk Hills' total gas processing capacity to more than 600 million cubic feet per day — enough natural gas to supply nearly half of California’s residential consumers. This plant is the biggest in the state, bolstering Elk Hills' status as a regional gas hub for California.
