Eighteen OxyChem facilities, including the headquarters in Dallas, have achieved Star Status under OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program as among the safest work sites in the U.S.
American Chemistry Council Energy Efficiency Award
The American Chemistry Council (ACC) awarded OxyChem's Augusta, Pasadena and Wichita facilities energy efficiency awards for specific projects undertaken at their facilities in 2009. Across OxyChem, resource conservation and pollution prevention projects resulted in annual reductions of over 5,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, 2 million pounds of solid waste and 1.5 million gallons of wastewater, and realized energy savings equivalent to about 17,000 barrels of oil.
Chlorine Institute Safety and Environmental Awards
In 2011, six OxyChem chlor-alkali plants received Chlorine Institute (CI) safety and environmental awards for their performance during 2010. The plants at Wichita and Convent earned the Chairman’s Safety Excellence Plaque, the organization's highest honor, for working a minimum of 325,000 hours with zero OSHA Recordable Injuries, zero Environmental Reportable Quantity Releases (RQ) and zero Risk Management Plan (RMP) events.
Louisiana Chemical Association (LCA) S.A.F.E.
OxyChem's Convent and Taft plants were recognized as the Best in Louisiana by the Louisiana Chemical Association S.A.F.E. (Serious About Fostering Excellence) program for their excellence in safety, PSM, environmental performance and support of the local community.
Invensys Operations Management
OxyChem Taft was awarded the Best Mobile Solution in Invensys Operations Management's annual Wonderware Open competition for its use of Wonderware IntelaTrac to ensure the proper function of critical instruments in its manufacturing facilities. Functional checks are performed on equipment to prevent and mitigate hazardous chemical release during routine and emergency operations.
CSX Transportation Chemical Safety Excellence Award
CSX Transportation (CSXT) recognized OxyChem with its annual Chemical Safety Excellence Award for OxyChem's commitment to safe hazardous material railcar loading and maintenance. To qualify for the award, OxyChem shipped 600 or more railcars during 2011 on CSXT, with no non-accidental hazardous material releases during the year.
City of Dallas Water Utilities Department Blue Thumb Award
OxyChem’s Dallas Silicates plant received the 2011 City of Dallas Water Utilities Department Blue Thumb Award, which recognizes local industrial plants that have excellent compliance history. This is the 19th year in a row that the plant has been honored with the award. In order to receive the award in a given year (July 1 through June 30), an industrial manufacturer must be in compliance with all discharge limits and reporting requirements.
American Trucking Associations (ATA) Awards
OxyChem Private Carriage received three American Trucking Associations (ATA) awards for its 2010 safety and driving performance. Private Carriage received the following awards: Industrial Safety Improvement Award for reducing the injury and illness incidence rate in 2010; the Truck Safety Improvement Award for reducing the number of accidents per mile traveled in 2010; and the Division Improvement Award in recognition and appreciation of Private Carriage’s overall commitment to safety for 2010.
