Chlorine is proven to be the best overall disinfectant, germicide,
algaicide and anti-slime agent available.
For more than a century chlorine has been used for swimming pool
sanitation. Today, it's used in over 90 percent of all residential
pools and in the majority of public pools in the United States.
Whether the source of chlorine is gaseous chlorine, liquid chlorine,
liquid bleach, calcium hypochlorite or stabilized chlorine, when
disolved in water, these products free chlorine. The free chlorine
exists as hypochlorous acid, a molecule with excellent sanitizing
and oxidizing properties. Chlorine oxidizes and eliminates organic
contaminants that cause cloudy water if allowed to build-up in pool
water. The free chlorine will also eliminate chloramines from water.
Chloramines will cause eye and skin irritation as well as produce
offensive odors. Free chlorine can also convert some soluble metallic
impurities into insoluble solids which can then be easily removed
from the pool water by filtration or vacuuming.
Packaging
ACL products have excellent storage stability. Unlike liquid bleach,
ACL will maintain its chlorine content almost indefinetly. Depending
upon the grade, ACL may be available in 50 kg., 300 lb. and 441
lb. drums as well as bulk bags.
Precautions
The ACL products are excellent pools and spa sanitizers because
of the oxidizing power of the contained chlorine. This unique characteristic
can also make these products hazardous chemicals to handle and store.
Guidelines for the safe handling and storage of these chemicals
is spelled out on the product label, the MSDS (Material Data Safety
Sheet) and the Guideline for Safe Handling and Storage by the Chlorinated
Sanitizers Industry Safety Committee. For additional information,
