Whether you're just beginning a new career, or you're a seasoned
professional, accepting a position in the oil and gas or chemical
industry means you're making a commitment to an ongoing learning
process.
The rate of change in our business is staggering - new products,
mergers and acquisitions, technological breakthroughs, government
regulations both in the U.S. and abroad, increasing community interaction,
global communications and growing competition from an increasingly
sophisticated group of international competitors. Our employees
must be able to respond quickly to these changes and challenges.
We
offer a number of ways to achieve new levels of learning and professional
excellence. The most obvious method is on-the-job training and
experience. As part of the Occidental team, you'll be mentored
by some of the brightest people in the industry. We also encourage
continued learning outside the job, and offer several methods of
helping employees further their education.
Occidental's Employee and Organizational Development group offers many
opportunities to explore new disciplines or enhance your existing
knowledge. The learning has no boundaries, and we offer traditional
training seminars and workshops, books, videos and online tutorials.
Some
of our business units have specific initiatives that help
drive cultural change. One such initiative is our Business Awareness
program championed by senior management. This two-day training
seminar has the singular goal of helping every employee become
a business partner and profit specialist.
This is not just a onetime
event, but an investment in our company's future - our employees.
To reinforce the concepts introduced in the initial Business
Awareness program, each General Manager hosts Quarterly Business
Review meetings where all employees in the business unit receive
an update on the Company's status and have the opportunity to ask
questions.
At
Occidental, learning is a partnership. We expect our employees
to take an active role in their own development. We'll provide
the tools, the time and the encouragement - the rest is up to you.
