Internships

Oxy offers summer internships to students with educational backgrounds in Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering; Geophysics and Geology; Land Management; and Health, Environment and Safety for our oil and gas and chemicals divisions. We also offer a limited number of internships for students with backgrounds in other disciplines.

During the 10 to 12 weeks of the internship, students are expected to assist in developing new projects, contribute to existing research and operations, and become familiar with various aspects of the industry. Interns are treated much like newly hired employees, and the contributions they make can be significant.

Our summer intern program stresses hands-on participation with an emphasis on completing a summer project. Projects are designed to add value to our operations while providing an opportunity to observe your skills and competencies in action. Knowledge gained and work completed are assessed at the end of the internship period through a presentation and poster session, at which interns describe their projects to Oxy employees in a variety of departments. This is a valuable opportunity to gain experience in making presentations, and a reminder that a broad range of skills is essential to professional success.

Internships at Oxy are seen as stepping stones to permanent industry careers. The experience fuses occupation and education and creates a learn-as-you-work atmosphere that can easily be translated to a professional position. Interns are paired with a mentor whose role is to provide guidance and encouragement. Our internships assess your potential long-term career fit within our organization, and allow you to determine if Oxy is right for you.

Oxy recruits top talent at a variety of colleges and universities each year during the months of September and October. If you are a junior or senior undergraduate or a graduate student with a grade-point average of 3.0 or higher and would like to be considered for an internship at Oxy, please look for us on your campus.
