water 50 miles east of the Qatar peninsula. Idd El Shargi South Dome
(left) is located about 15 miles to the south and is operated as a satellite
facility. The diagram depicts the dome structures that trap the oil and
two of the seven producing reservoirs - the Shuiba at about 4,500 feet
and the Arab D at about 7,000 feet below the surface.

The ISND field contains an enormous
amount of oil in place, but because of the field’s complex geology,
the historic recovery rate has been low, providing significant opportunity
for enhanced recovery. Occidental is aggressively developing
the field through the application of successful waterfloods, innovative
drilling techniques and state-of-the-art reservoir characterization.
Today Occidental is using specialized seismic techniques to image
the complex fracture reservoir systems to further enhance recovery
and add new reserves.
